Verifica vs Parallel Markets

A reusable investor passport versus a compliance file your firm owns. Both shorten onboarding. They answer different questions when a regulator asks how you verified someone.

The short answer

Parallel Markets is built for the investor. They verify once, keep a Passport and share it with every fund they invest in. Verifica is built for the firm. Every client ends up with a compliance file that your team controls and can hand to an examiner.

If your offerings run under Rule 506(c) and you need accredited investor verification, Parallel Markets covers that and Verifica does not. If you need a screening record you own, across funds, property deals or client intake, Verifica is the narrower and deeper tool.

Where Parallel Markets is the better fit

  • You run 506(c) offerings and need accredited investor status verified with reviewed documentation.
  • Your investors are repeat private-markets investors who already hold a Parallel Passport or an iCapital account, so onboarding them is close to one click.
  • You already distribute through iCapital and want onboarding in the same ecosystem.

Where Verifica is the better fit

  • You want the screening record to sit in your file and on your terms, rather than come from a shared identity that the investor manages.
  • You need LSEG Risk Intelligence screening with each hit flagged for your reviewer and stored next to the identity evidence and the ownership map.
  • You verify more than fund investors: buyers and sellers in a property transaction, new clients at a law firm, entity counterparties.
  • You prefer a vendor that is not part of a larger distribution platform.

The reusable-identity question

A reusable identity saves the investor time. The trade-off sits with the fund. When a regulator asks how you verified a particular LP, you need to show what was checked, when it was checked, against which lists, and who signed off. Before relying on a shared identity, confirm that you can get that level of detail for your own file and that it reflects a check recent enough for your risk policy.

Questions to ask either vendor

  • When an investor reuses a verified identity, how old is the underlying check, and is screening re-run for my fund?
  • Which screening database is used, and does it include PEP and adverse media?
  • Can I export one investor's complete record, with timestamps and reviewer decisions, as a single file?
  • How does pricing work for entities with several beneficial owners?

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Parallel Markets?

iCapital announced an agreement to acquire Parallel Markets in January 2025 and has described the product as the iCapital Investor Passport.

Does Verifica verify accredited investor status?

Verifica does not issue accredited investor verification letters. See accredited investor verification for how that requirement works alongside KYC.

Can I use Parallel Markets and Verifica together?

Yes. Some funds use a 506(c) verification service for accreditation and a separate KYC/AML tool for the screening file. Keep one system as the record of truth for KYC.
